Begin training for a Trick Dog title with Do More With Your Dog!™

What can you do to have fun indoors?
High heat. Humidity. Thunderstorms.
Summer in middle Tennessee….
I don’t know about you, but as much as I love summertime, it’s still hard to have fun when it’s just too hot for your best friend to tag along with you while you run errands…or too hot to risk heat stroke while hiking…tender paw pads can be injured on burning asphalt…and lightning can cut short that day at the lake.
Active dogs, however, don’t totally understand why they can’t continue to keep on going during this type of weather. And bored dogs can turn into misbehaving dogs if they don’t have an outlet for their energy.
So maybe you break out the treats and start asking your dog to do some basic tricks to break up the monotony. Your dog can Sit and Shake Hands, right? She can even Roll Over and Sit Pretty?
Well, how about changing your view and looking at stay-inside days as a great opportunity to begin training for a Trick Dog title with Do More With Your Dog!™
Yep – you can earn a title for tricks!
Internationally known dog trainer and best-selling author Kyra Sundance began this positive dog training program as a way to encourage dog owners to include their canine companions in all areas of their lives – be it through dog sports, trick training or just sharing activities together. It’s the official sanctioning body for the sport of Trick Dogs. And it’s super easy to get started.
Titles range from Novice all the way through Trick Dog Champion – and I’ll bet your dog is probably at least halfway there for their Novice title. Do More With Your Dog™ has downloadable lists of what tricks you and your dog need to master to earn each title. To earn the Novice Trick Dog (NTD) title, for example, your dog must perform at least 15 tricks of your choosing from the list in the presence of a Certified Trick Dog Instructor.
If you work best in a group with an instructor right there to help you, you can find a local class that meets weekly. So far, I have not located any instructors/classes in the Nashville area – although there are some in other Tennessee cities.
But not to worry; you can join an online class. Spark Teams are free Facebook classes led by Certified Trick Dog Instructors. You can find a list on the Do More With Your Dog ™website and join in at any time. This is the choice Chloe and I made and it has worked wonderfully well. You’ll get live feedback and help to walk you through any training questions or difficulties you might encounter.
Each week your Spark Team instructor will post a detailed video. Each trick is broken down into trainable steps. Easy for your and your dog. Follow along and soon you’ll have a long list of tricks you had no idea your dog could learn to do.
Along with learning the weekly tricks, you can submit an online video of you and your dog – together you’re known as a team – for your instructor to witness. You’ll earn your title in no time.
(And just so you know, Trick Titles are not just for dogs. I’ve seen cats, bunnies – even chickens learning these tricks!)
After your team has successfully performed your tricks and your instructor has witnessed them, all you do is complete and send in your paperwork online or by mail. You’ll receive your brand new title and certificate.
And there’s even more…
If you discover that you and your dog really feel this whole trick thing is da bomb, then Do More With Your Dog™ offers more workshops. You can work towards stunt dog titles. If you have a passion for teaching, you can enroll in Certified Trick Dog Instructor training. Or maybe you’re thinking about competing? There are workshops and opportunities for that, too.
It opens up a whole new world of sharing and bonding with your four-legged partner. So embrace the heat of summer, get under the A/C and set a goal to earn that first title!
